Step 1: Lead-in
1. 寒暄Greeting: Good morning boys and girls. How are you today? Nice, I'm happy to hear that. Let's start our English class.
2. 出示材料+互动: At the beginning of the class, I'd like to show you a video.Please look at the screen. (指大屏幕) What can you see in the video? Have you ever seen it? Lily, you can have a try. Right! It’s a famous sitcom “Friends”. Excellent! Sit down, please.
3. 引出标题+板书: Well, today our topic is also about that. Let’s learn our new lesson. Girls can talk for so long.
Step 2:Pre-reading
【活动1---讲单词】 First of all, let's see some new words: puzzle, recipe (板书).Look, you can work in pairs and look them up in the dictionary. (手指黑板) I will give you 2 minutes. Here we go! (拍手) Stop here. Let’s pay attention to the first one---puzzle. Puzzle means be uncertain about somethings. It has the similar meaning to confuse. Got it? Who can make a sentence? My sister puzzles me and causes me anxiety. Excellent! And the next one-- recipe. A recipe is the direction for cooking something. Look at the screen, this is the recipe of Kung Pao chicken. Am I clear? Good!
【活动3---阅读技巧点拨】 But before reading, I'd like to share some reading tips for you. There are two important skills in reading. The first one is skimming. We skim a text when we want to get a general idea of what it is about. We often look at the titles, the first and last sentences of paragraphs to guess what the text is about. And the second one is scanning. When we want to find certain information in a text quickly, we scan the text for keywords. We do not need to read the whole text word by word or sentence by sentence. Got it? Great!
【活动2---预测】 Now everyone, I have a question for you. Can you try to predict the passage according to the title/words on the blackboard? (指黑板) Any volunteers? Oh, you think it's a funny story. Other ideas? Tony, please. Good guessing. Different people have different guesses. Whose guess is correct? (设置悬念,激发读的兴趣) Let’s read the passage to find out the answer.

Step 3:While- reading
【第一遍:读大意】 Now, please open your book. Here, we have a short passage. I will read it for you. While you are listening, think about this question: What's the main idea of the passage? At the same time, check your prediction. Now, let's begin. (朗读文章,完成题本要求) My friend, Robert, has a twin sister named Amanda. Though they get along well, there are some things about Amanda and her friends that puzzle Robert. He can’t understand how girls can talk for so long… Boys and girls have different attitudes towards friendship. OK, we stop here. Who can tell me what the passage mainly talks about? 【第二遍:读细节】 Since you have got the main idea, now please read the passage by yourselves. Then answer the questions on the blackboard. (板书题目) ①What puzzles Robert? ②What is Amanda's attitude towards friendship? Wow, you are so involved! Who can give us the answer to the first one? What puzzles Robert? Tom, please. He can’t understand how girls can talk for so long (直接念原文) Good! How about the second one? What is Amanda's attitude towards friendship? Jerry? 【*第三遍:跟读】 For the third time, let’s read after the tape/me to get more familiar with the passage. (以下跟读方式任选一种) ➢ You should imitate the pronunciation and intonation. Read aloud, please.
