• The legislature
  • Congress is the legislative branch of the federal government. Ir consists of two houses:the Senate and the House of Representative
    • The Senate has 100 voting members.Senators must be 30 years old,a resident in the state which they represent, must have been a U.S. citizens for at least 9 years.
    • The House of Representative has 435 voting members. The representatives must be at least 25 years old and a U.S. citizen for at least seven years.
  • The main function of congress is to pass laws for the union .Both houses have the power to introduce legislation on any subject except the revenue bills which must originate in the House of Representative. If it is favorably voted, then after the hereings recommendations regarding the bill are reported to the House of Representatives or the Senate by the committee. Then,The president may either sign it into a vote or veto it. If it is vetoed, Congress can override the veto by a two-thirds majority.
• The excutive
  • The department has form the Cabinet, which is the major source of advice and assistance to the president.
  • The president has powers to manage national affairs and the working of the federal government.(executive order) He appoints the Secretary of State with the approval of the Senate. He can also influence the law-making and the decision of federal courts. But he must ask congress for every dollar it administrations.
• The Judiciary
  • It consists of a series of courts: the Supreme Court, the courts of appeals and the distinct courts.
    • The Surpreme Court is the highest court of the U.S.It has one Chief Justice and eight Associate Justices. They are all appointed by the president with the Senate's approval.
      • The power:①to interpret laws ②to hear appeals from any federal court cases ③to hear appeals from state court cases that involve the Constitution or national laws ④may declare a law unconstitutional ⑤may declare a presidential act en constitutional
    • The courts of appeals have been set up to share the burden of the Supreme Court. The whole country is divided into 12 appeal regions. Each region has a court of appeals made up of several judges. The 50 states are divided into 94 federal jusdicial distincts.
