China completed the arduous task of eliminating extreme poverty in 2020, achieving the poverty reduction goals set out in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development by the UN 10 years ahead of schedule. Thanks to the poverty alleviation campaign, nearly 100 million people in rural areas havebeen lifted above the national poverty line, and all the 128,000 previously impoverished villages and 832 designated poor counties have been removed from poverty.
