He is one of the most outstanding writers in the history of English literature, equal to Tolstoy and Dostovsky, and is regarded as the pioneer of English literature.

①Hardy was born in Dorset, England in 1840. ②In 1865, Hardy published his first official literary work in Chambers' Magazine in a short essay called "My HouseBuilding Experience. ③In 1878, Hardy was elected to the Savile Club, one of the most influential literary societies of the time. ④In 1881 Hardy decided that living in London was bad for his health and his writing, and in June he moved to Wimborne, near Dorchester. ⑤In 1888 Hardy's first collection of short stories, Wessex Tales, was published. ⑥When Tess of the D 'Urbervilles was published in 1891, Hardy became the most popular writer of his time. ⑦In 1895, under attack for his work, Hardy vowed never to write another novel, and since then he has devoted himself to poetry ⑧Hardy died in Hongmen on January 11, 1928
