Hearing
Use what organ to hear?
Ear
detect sound waves in the air
How detect?
Very small bones in our ear vibrate from the sound waves
Our brain interprets this vibration as sound
What to hear?
Sounds
What are sounds?
Waves moving through the air
What to cause sound waves?
When something vibrates, it bumps the air and makes it vibrate too
why?(purpose)
Ears lets us know which direction sound is coming from
Touch
Use what to touch?
Touch with skin
Skin use what?
Nerves
Our skin is full of many nerves
Where?
Nerves sit under our skin
How?
Nerves send information from our skin to our brain
What to touch?
Our skin can detect hot, cold, wet, dry, rough, soft
Why?(purpose)
Sense of touch helps us avoid danger-pain
Taste
Use what organ to taste?
tongue
what part of tongue
Taste buds
Our tongue is covered in millions of taste buds
What looks like?
Taste buds looks like many tiny bumps on our tongue
How?
When we eat, taste buds tell us what flavor it is
What to taste?
5 main flavors
Sweet
taste area
tip of tongue
Bitter
taste area
back of tongue
Salt
Sour(酸)
Umami(鲜味)/Savory
概要
Why?(purpose)
Avoid poison(dangerrous) food
toxic substance can harm our body
generally taste bad
e.g rotten food
food that has gone bad
Seek high energy foods
Benefits: help our body too work
Bad points: eating too much is bad
generally taste good
Smell
Use what organ to smell
nose
what part of nose?
nasal cavity
What to smell?
ONLY particles(微粒) in the air
How to smell?
1. small particles emit from source
2. they enter the nasal cavity
3. nerves in nasal cavity detect them and tell our brain
Why?(purpose)
same as purpose of taste
Animals with much better sense of smell
Why?
Use the sense of smell to hunt
Need to smell food from far away
Example: wolf
Example:dog
40 times of ours
why?
Dog has more cells(细胞) in nasal cavity
Its structure of nose is also better designed to smell
How we use their sense?
Train to help us find people based on smell
Smell and taste work together
why?
1. nasal cavity and mouth are connected
2. we often taste and smell the same particles
Example 1
If you cover your nose, you won't be able to taste well
Example 2
When our nose is blocked, we can't taste well
Other special senses
Infrared
The way how a snake sees heat
Echolocation
The way how a bat sees in the dark
p
Sight
Use what organ to see
eyes
eye parts
Iris
Colored part of eye.
blue
brown
black
green ...
Pupil
let light in
In dark place
get bigger to let more light in
In bright place
get smaller to let less light in
Lens
focus the light and make a image on retina
Retina
senses the light and sends the image to optic nerve
Optic nerve
sends the message(infor) to brain
概要
What to see?
Lights
can see 7 colors
red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo( 靛蓝), violet(紫)
rainbow shows all colors of the light spectrum
p
Can only see close objects
How to see far away things?
telescope
invented by Galileo Italian
p
use lenses(镜头) to help our eyes see more light
How to see very small things?
microscope
hand lens
How to see?
1. Light comes from a light source and enter the pupil
2. Light is focused by lens and hits the retina
3. Retina is connected to optic nerve and sends the information to our brain
5 senses
Sense
What?
A way we use to gain information about the world
Information
What our senses tell our brain.
e.g.sound, light, color, flavor...
Include?
touch, sight, hearing, smell and taste
Why?(purpose)
The senses work together to help humans gather information around
Avoid danger/poison and seek safety/good things
Use what?
Sense organs
Organs
A part of our body that helps our body complete a task
Example 1
Lungs
Help to breathe air
Example 2
Heart
Help us pump blood
help our body gather information
All sense organs are connected to the brain with nerves
