The process by which the ear transforms sound vibrations in the external environment into nerve impulses that are conveyed to the brain.
How do we transmit sound to the central nervous syustem?
Undergoing three transformation.
1.The air virbrations →vibrations of the ①tympanic membrane and② ossicles of the middle ear.
①鼓膜②听小骨
2.These virbrations→vibrations in the fluid within the ③cochlea.
③耳蜗
3.The fluid vibrations set up ④traveling waves along the ⑤basilar membrane that stimulate the ⑥hair cells of the ⑦Corti.
④行波⑤基底膜⑥毛细胞⑦螺旋器
By hair cells, sound vibrations→ nerve impulses in the fibers of the cochlear nerve. The nerve impulses are transmitted to →the brain stem →the primary auditory area of the cerebral cortex which is the ultimate centre of the brain for hearing.
